Sarah’s Party Animals and Stories of Joy Photography partnered last year for a super fun photo day! We had such an amazing time photographing children and baby animals in the spring time. Baby Animals are coming back!!! Save a date for April 7th late afternoon, and stay tuned for details! I do have a priority list of client families who will get the sign-up first, so please let me know if you’d like me to add you to it!
Second Day in the Life Session
My second Day in the Life Session was in Florida, in the spring of 2016. I made it to family C’s home early in the morning. Dad had already woken up and left for work, but I got to photograph mom waking up both girls. And I stayed there until the girls went to bed at night.
These few pictures are just a small sampling of what each family sees. After a Day in the Life Session the family will see a smaller Story Gallery where I pick my favorite 100 images, and hand edit them, and make a movie out of these images. I will also make a larger gallery that has all edited images from the day, anywhere from 300 to 500 or more, depending on the family and activities.
As I join your family for the day, I’m not trying to be a fly on the wall - I’m there to participate in all your activities (so I can document all you do). I have a questionnaire I send out so I can come prepared with a bathing suit and waterproofing gear if water play is involved.
But at the same time, I’m not pressing my shutter button at all times - there are quieter times in the day, and I might visit with one of the family members - or even take a break. As a documentary storyteller I take pictures that I believe will represent your day, and pictures I believe you would want to have.
And every Day in the Life Session I come from, I truly feel like I have made new friends - for life.
Sometimes I feel like I’m a little in your face to get the picture - but it’s not like that all day. And if you need some time to regroup, or if you usually like to lay down for a little while during the day, you can still do all that. I usually leave rooms with closed doors alone (unless I have a feeling there is a moment to document - little children particularly do their most creative work in quiet).
And we talk about nudity - what you are comfortable with. I do not ever post any nudity on my social media - unless we mutually decide to post an image (and it would only be partially in nude).
My goal is to serve your family, and since each family is different, we talk about in what way I can serve your family best.
It might feel a little strange to have me take pictures of you when you’re out running errands. But since I join you as a friend, we rarely get asked why I’m taking pictures. I think it’s really special to have these images as a part of your day. Besides, grocery stores in particular make great backdrops for pictures! I even did one Documentary Session at Costco with a mom and five kids!
I am personally drawn to moments of joy, love and happiness, but also naughtiness and bad attitudes. I love making images that show parents working hard at parenting, and show how tiring and endless some moments (phases) seem. I want to make images that show authentic emotion and real every day life.
If this is something you’d like to do, please don’t hesitate to contact me! I would love to document a Day in the Life for your family. December special is good for a few more hours!!!
Showcasing Day in the Life Sessions
Yesterday my family did our own Day in the Life Session with a photographer here in Maine.
We did our first one in Florida this April (with Shelby Truly Photography) and I loved our session and images, but Thomas was in Virginia then.
As soon as I realized we’d all be together this Christmas (plus have my mom with us), I asked Aura Moore Photography if she could come spend a day with us. And she did, yesterday! I can’t wait to see our pictures!!
I decided I’d take some time in the next couple of weeks to showcase here Day in the Life Sessions I’ve photographed.
These ten pictures are from my very first Day in the Life Session in Florida in 2016 with a wonderful homeschool family.
Mom and dad are busy raising four daughters and a son, and they are doing such an incredible job - I so admire the hard work and endless love they put in day in and day out - and still make their marriage a priority.
These pictures are now two years old - oh, how life has changed! But the K family will always have these pictures to show them, show their children and grandchildren what everyday normal life was like in the fall of 2016.
Are you documenting your everyday life? Are you in the pictures, too? I would be happy to help you make a documentary of your life in 2019 - either a full day one, or we can do a short morning or evening one. Let’s get this precious, yet challenging phase of your family life recorded before it has passed by.
If you’d like to schedule your own Day in the Life Session with me, message me for my December Special!
*** THANKSGIVING SPECIAL ***
It is the season to be Thankful, and I truly am. I have had the privilege of serving so many wonderful families this year, and my business has been growing beyond my expectations. Sometimes I wonder if I need to limit the number of sessions I offer, but so far I have made it work with my wonderful support network.
One way to show my gratefulness is to offer a complimentary session every now and then. I have to say these sessions have been so meaningful to me, and I feel like I have received more than I have given.
Another way is to show my thankfulness is to make sure to offer something special during Thanksgiving. There’s Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. This year I have three specials to offer: for this year’s clients I’d like to offer 30% off regular price high resolution digital files, prints and products (not applicable to school pictures). I will be activating a code in my galleries that will be good for one week, so look for an email in your inbox!
For any Photography Session booked this week you will receive 30% off regular price high resolution digital files, prints and products*! Your session fee needs to be paid this week, but your session can be scheduled for up to six months from the day you reserve it.
And lastly, if you buy a Gift Card to give away, each gift card recipient will be gifted 1-10 complimentary high digital resolution files (depending on the length your session)! Photo Session Gift Cards start at $125 for a Mini Session (offer three or four times a year - next one will be either Valentine’s Day or Easter Farm Animal Mini Sessions), and can be purchased for Day in the Life Sessions as well! I can’t think of a better gift to give, than a gift of family photos.
Let me know if you have questions and if you’re ready to book your session! Happy Thanksgiving!

Summer Session Availability 2018 {Edited}
Summer is approaching at almost an alarming pace! I decided to make a post of highlighting some of the places where I will be shooting this summer, so if you had wanted to book a session, you can refer to this one post.
In May I have very few sessions available in Vero Beach, Florida (area). I can squeeze one Day in the Life Session (all day) in, and one more Short Story Session (~1.5 hrs). My Storytelling Mini Sessions have been very popular, and if you can book a week night session, those are still available.
I will be in Maine for the last part of June, and can fit a couple of sessions in during that time (maybe even in New Hampshire). I hope I'll make it before the lupines are done, so if you'd like pictures taken with these beautiful flowers, let me know! And from second week in August to the end of the month I am on vacation in Maine, but ask about a New England session then, too!
In July 2018 I have opened up six sessions in Finland (read more here). I had so much fun shooting there last summer, and can't wait to do a few more this summer, too!
If you'd like to be notified of my fall availability in Florida, please let me know. I would love to work with you and your family!
